A beautiful, original & super rare period model of the pre war Junkers Ju-90 Airliner......with a history.
The scale is 1:50, giving a wingspan of over 2 ft.....28 inches actually, or 70cms ! ...and the model is completely made of wood apart from the perspex cabin windows, the fuselage is hollow so you can see through the clear windows......Cockpit windows are painted on. The weight of this giant is 1.2Kgs.
The Junkers Ju 90 was a 40-seat, four-engine airliner developed for and used by Deutsche Luft Hansa shortly before World War II. It was based on the rejected Ju 89 bomber. During the war, the Luftwaffe impressed them as military transports. ......
This particular model was obtained by a respected German collector, directly from Hamburg Airport Authority in 1998, who, in turn had it from Deutsche Luft Hansa before the outbreak of WW2. It was kept in the local airport model collection up until they decided to concentrate on models made after 1945.
The Airframe is in good condition considering it's age.........ailerons have rusty hinges, and there is some splintered/nibbled bits on them. It's obvious that there have been a few repairs in the intervening years .....but not bad for almost 80 years old !! Some restoration would be quite straightforward ......but it's otherwise so good, it really needs leaving just as it is, it's a direct and genuine link with the past on so many levels.....please see all photographs.
This is truly a one off, and a very reluctant sale........you will not find another !
